                                    The Navajo

   The Navajo live in the desert. They live in the desert in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.

The climate is hot and dry. The Navajo people buried seeds deep in the ground to get water for the seeds. The Navajo learned to use the natural resources in the desert.

    The Navajo live in hogans. They build their houses out of sand and logs. The mother, father, and the visitor all have their place to sit. The Navajo sleep on deer skins. On the hogans there is a chimney to let out smoke from the fire. The door on the hogan faces the east side. That’s what we know about hogans.

   The Navajo ate lots of different things even though they are living in the deserts. They like corn, beans, berries, nuts, deer meat and skin and other animals. The Navajo are special because they know how to use natural resources even though they live in the deserts. Another reason why the Navajo are special is because the sand paintings are beautiful and the sand paintings can cure the sick people.
